Picasso fell into conversation with an American GI in Paris during WWII. The GI told Picasso he did not like modern paintings because they were not realistic. Picasso, of course painted modern art, and he did not immediately reply; a few minutes passed and the soldier offered a photo of his girlfriend. Picasso replied, “My, is she really as small as that?”
